Balenciaga RTW Fall 2012

Balenciaga RTW Fall 2012

Ghesquière’s recent forays into increased volumes suggest a determination to take his runway in a more commercial direction than that which centered on his famous, superskinny silhouette. For fall though, not everything was big; it felt demonstrative, if not in the structure or at the shoulder, then in the fabric mixes. Fabulous coats, fold-front A-line skirts and pants versions of the jumpsuits looked great and salable. However, some of the fuller shapes — the short, round sweaters come to mind — didn’t exactly telegraph svelte.

Sonia Rykiel RTW Fall 2012

Sonia Rykiel RTW Fall 2012
“Paris in the effervescent Seventies,” according to the show notes, was a period during which Sonia Rykiel blossomed, her iconic style — the oversize coats, the charming knits and the signature red frizz — making its mark on the fashion scene. Rochas RTW Fall 2012

Rochas RTW Fall 2012
The Fall Rochas show was a swirling kaleidoscope of graphic, geometric prints inspired by the pottery of the Swedish ceramicist Wilhelm Kage. Designer Marco Zanini collects his pieces; still, he was surprised when he found himself using them in his own work. He usually starts with an image of a woman or a movie.More after the jump.

Dries Van Noten RTW Fall 2012

Dries Van Noten RTW Fall 2012
Dries Van Noten has a well-established love of exotica, typically expressed via his innovative use of prints. He is also among the increasingly few designers who give their runways over primarily to daywear — real, unapologetic daywear that could, aside from the editorial flourish or two, make a speedy segue from runway to street. In the collection he showed on Wednesday, Van Noten again fused those two core elements to ultrachic effect.
