Balmain RTW Fall 2012Balmain RTW Fall 2012

Balmain RTW Fall 2012
More is more, and then some. It’s a school of thought that Balmain’s Olivier Rousteing clearly subscribed to for fall, with dazzling results, literally. He amped up the flash with a bold lineup that explored surface ornamentation, taking it to the nth degree. He piled on the embroidery and embellishment — pearls, crystals, studs, upholsterylike quilting and needlepoint florals, often in the same piece — for jackets, tops and formfitting dresses.

Giorgio Armani RTW Fall 2012

Giorgio Armani RTW Fall 2012
There was plenty to see at Armani, which the designer dubbed “Easy Chic.” The refined tailoring provided the chic, he said before the show, with a flats-only approach for shoes delivering the ease. The clothes featured a strong men’s wear current, but rendered with a light hand; every ensemble was topped off by an audacious fedora, and vibrant orange and fuchsia ran throughout.

Missoni RTW Fall 2012

Missoni RTW Fall 2012
Missoni presented a collection with fur accents, shoulder wraps, print mixing, long hemlines. The colours of the collection were red, rust, gray, blue, moss green, brown. Fabsugar has chosen the sheer lace dress with brocade cape and  the gold-encrusted party dress with black veil as key pieces. The models were wearing elbow-length leather gloves, thin waist belts, fur hats, thin-tipped boots and heels, geometric gold brooches. The whole collection after the jump.

Dolce and Gabbana RTW Fall 2012

Dolce and Gabbana RTW Fall 2012
Dolce & Gabbana came with lots of lace; floral motifs, cherub prints, brocade, layers of tulle. The colours were black, white, nude and gold. Fabsugar picked  the sheer lace dress with brocade cape; the gold-encrusted party dress with black veil as key piece of the collection. Among the accessories, bejeweled headbands, decadent drop earrings and statement necklaces, velvet evening bags, lace knee socks, carved wood heels. After the jump the pictures.

Emporio Armani RTW Fall 2012

Emporio Armani RTW Fall 2012

A single idea can sometimes inform every silhouette the designer chooses to create. In Giorgio Armani’s playful Emporio Armani show, it came via his new pants: slim-cut, cuffed and ending just at the knee, like knickers. He had them in nearly every exit, which could have easily resulted in a tricky moment, but they worked, mainly because Armani designed many charming clothes around them.

Dirk Bikkembergs RTW Fall 2012

For the most part, this was a collection of snappy sportswear, in the bright green of football pitches, marigold yellow, purple, and blue. The highlight was a thickly striped sweatshirt with short sleeves and low armholes that gave it an urban spin.

Moschino RTW Fall 2012

A medley of influences, including toy soldiers, party girls and what looked to be motocross rangers, marched through the fall Moschino collection. Backstage before the show, designer Rossella Jardini described the lineup as “a parade” — complete with a snare drum soundtrack — indirectly acknowledging that the Sixties military jackets; streamlined, color-blocked knit tops and leggings and the taffeta pouf dresses inspired by Peter Seller’s “Pink Panther” looked like they belonged to different collections entirely.

Meadham Kirchhoff Fall 2012 RTW

Meadham Kirchhoff Fall 2012 RTW

After shaking up London with their runway hijinks for several seasons, Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff went for a more classic show this time — although the clothes were as quirky as ever. A real glitter fest, there were sequined pantsuits and patchwork furs, tinsel-fringed boleros, striped Lurex tights and sparkling Seventies platform shoes.

Issa London RTW Fall 2012

Issa London RTW Fall 2012
"Russian doll meets James Bond," Daniella Issa Helayel said of her collection — a fashion “journey from Moscow to Beijing." She stuck with the form-fitting jersey dresses that have become her signature, executing them in rich paisley prints in navy, orange and green, some worn with babushka-style head scarves.

Ralph Lauren RTW Fall 2012

Ralph Lauren RTW Fall 2012
In retrospect, it seems odd that it took until the last day of the New York collections for “Downton Abbey” to hit the runway. But then, who better to work that motif than Ralph Lauren, whose multifaceted aesthetic has one plain deeply entrenched in the charms of English country life?

Calvin Klein RTW Fall 2012

Power. It’s the ultimate aphrodisiac. At Calvin Klein, it’s also a substantial business reality: an American fashion powerhouse and engine behind parent Phillips Van Heusen’s success. That’s the only plausible reason why the Occupy Wall Street movement would plan a march outside Thursday’s Calvin Klein Collection show. In the end, however, the turnout of just a handful of protesters was weak.

Proenza Schouler Fall 2012 - NYFW

Proenza Schouler Fall 2012 - NYFW
It’s no secret that Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez view each runway collection as an opportunity to shred their previous show, do something totally different and knock it out of the park — which they did again for fall, providing one of the New York season’s few moments of significant fashion news. So spring’s retro kitsch of bustier tops and bad car interiors was out; a minimalist streak done in maxed-out silhouettes was in, at least at the outset.

J. Mendel RTW Fall 2012

J. Mendel RTW Fall 2012

Inspired by the architecture of Antonio Gaudi, Gilles Mendel focused on mixed textures, rounded shapes and, most of all, mosaiclike details. The latter were worked to great effect on shaded coats and jackets, some in mixtures of up to eight furs, including badger, raccoon, goat, mink and shadow fox. But it was Mendel’s opening white group that was best in show, beautifully executed with a long cashmere and Swakara cardigan, chiffon top and pleated skirt. His sportier looks, such as a black tiered shearling jacket and flippy short skirt, were also successful, but the full-skirted minidresses in luxe fabrics seemed too girly coming from a designer whose eveningwear is usually so sophisticated.
