Top 5 Hair Trends of 2011

Complicated Braids That We Couldn’t Possibly Replicate at Home: We actually love this trend a lot–it’s so gorgeous. The problem is that no one has a chance in hell of ever being able to do any of these styles on their own at home, even with a friend helping. John Barrett’s Braid Bar opened this year (for about $40 for a braided style) to fill the void, but it’s a bit of an unattainable style unless you have eyes in the back of your head, have an extra hand attached to your elbow, and are double jointed.

The Half Up/Half Down: Kate Middleton and Angelina Jolie are responsible for this one. It’s a pretty look but maybe we can start taking a stand: Put your hair up or down, not both.

Ombré: The classier sister of the dip dye, it looked so fresh and interesting when early adopters like Drew Barrymore started doing
 it.

Technicolor Dip Dye: We loved this look and gushed over it frequently, especially when Lauren Conrad did her tasteful yet short-lived baby pink and blue. Then the Jersey Shore cast started donning technicolor extensions, and it suddenly wasn’t as cute.

Feather Extensions: Countless roosters died for this trend, not to mention the hair industry pissed off a bunch of fly fishermen who were suddenly faced with inflated prices for fly fishing feathers. This trend finally looks a bit dated. Let’s give the feathers back to the fishermen, OK?
