“We’ve been going to Europe the last few seasons,” said Jason Wu. “Now we’re coming back to America and going to the West.” And that’s West as in West Coast — Wu’s heading toward the casual, cool terrain of California living, albeit with a slight detour to Puerto Rico. The result was ultrasportif and relaxed, kicked up a fun notch with “happy colors” and graphic details inspired by the palette and architectural moldings of buildings in Old San Juan. There were chic varsity sweaters, double-faced cashmere fleece hoodies — “I love the idea of elevating fleece” — and T-shirts cut entirely from guipure lace. The designer also nicely touched upon the season’s surf trend, best seen in the floral sundress with wet suitlike piping and colorblocking details. And for those actually hitting the waves, there’s some news here too: Wu introduced his first swimwear collection for resort.(WWD)
