A stroll through any of Free People’s stores transports shoppers into a realm of 70′s boho, modernized for the daisy-chain prone, though slightly less tree-hugging type of girl.  Keeping in line with their affinity for individualism, the brand has enlisted some of modeling’s most distinctive faces for their January and February catalogues.  Karlie Kloss, Freja Beja, and Jessica Hart were each cast for their unique sensibilities, which also happen to embody the label’s contempo, though glitzy ideals of easy living.

For January’s book, Free People explored the difference between the typical clear-cut styles of New York and Los Angeles—choosing the gazelle-like Kloss and beach-babe Hart to epitomize each city’s aesthetic, respectively.  Where the considerably slim Kloss pirouettes in front of Katz’s Delicatessin for a taxi, Hart is flanked by neon board shorts and a surfboard on a beach in Malibu—each representing urban iconoclast, though not without Free People’s signature mussed-up spin.  ”It was funny, Karlie was so open to jumping into the back of the car and changing all over New York,” the brand’s creative director, Doub Hanshaw, said of the shoot.

For February, F.P. played-up Freja Beja’s well-known versatility to portray each of the label’s ‘model personalities,’ like Molly, a retro gal who’s “ladylike with a cool twist” and Lou, a tomboy who “grew up building dams and climbing trees.”  True to form, Beja’s expressions of a hipster bombshell or pixie-like vintage-lover never lacked the “kick-ass attitude,” that the model is known for, Hanshaw ensured.
