Girl-about-town Natalie Joos spends her days casting for shows
like Zac Posen and Karen Walker and editorials for the likes of Mario
Sorrenti and Mariano Vivanco, but her passion is vintage clothing. Joos’
blog, Tales of Endearment
spotlights her “Muses,” impeccably styled girls and guys who share her
secondhand obsession. In a new partnership with Style.com, Tales of
Endearment’s subjects discuss their shoots on Style File.
“Never say ‘never’—I’m pretty confident that if there was a piece of
clothing I had to wear, I could make it work,” model Taylor Warren tells
Style.com of her fashion mantra. “Even ugly polyester muumuus and
housedresses in the most awful thrift stores seem to have a purpose to
me.”
Luckily for Warren, who has appeared in the likes of Vogue Italia and graced the cover of Nylon,
she has the good looks to make even a muumuu appear chic (though she
says she usually gravitates more toward formfitting blazers). Warren, an
admitted clothing hoarder, she also has a soft spot for The View,
6-year-old pageant girl Eden Wood, and almost any craft activity
involving needles and yarn. “There are not enough words to define the
essence of Taylor Warren,” says Joos. “Just when you think you got her
pegged, she piles on another hidden talent, incurable obsession, or
historical fun fact, each time accompanied by an infectious,
self-deprecating giggle.” Joos is right, the New York native is full of
curveballs. Here’s one more: This summer, she appeared as one of the
dead models in Kanye’s “Monster” music video. Here, Warren tells
Style.com about what she’s working on next, her style, and her new
year’s resolutions.
How would your describe your style?
Selfish. I take inspiration from all sorts of places, but I don’t like sharing pieces of clothing. A lot of the trendy basic items I buy end up in my pajama pile.

How does your work as a model influence your style?
When I travel, I get to experience trends in the different cities and how different they vary from one another. Being in Paris was the most inspirational city for me. I watched a few too many Godard films before traveling there. I have a red beret and an Anna Karenina obsession, and was slightly embarrassed walking around Paris wearing one.

What modeling projects are you working on right now, and what do you have coming up?
Modeling is a pretty last-minute career. Right now I’m on my Christmas “break.”

How does vintage play into your look?
Vintage is the most important element of my style. I like to be the only person to have what I’m wearing.

Do you have a signature item you wear every single day?
I wear a collection of watches every day—it started with a Guess? watch I took from my mom. Then my late manager’s wife gave me a gold stretchy Timex watch. I have stopped replacing the batteries in them, since she is no longer with us. As far as a signature clothing item, I wear a blazer almost every day (as long as it isn’t too warm outside). My favorite blazers are boys’ navy school blazers with the gold buttons. Also, everything fits when you put a belt on it—I have two brown leather braided belts that I feel naked without.

What’s your new year’s resolution?
It’s always the same things: smoke less, swear less, stand up straighter, and become more organized.

Finish this thought: What’s old is new again when…?
You clean out the depths of your closet.
