Sophie Hulme graduated from Kingston University with Student of the Year
and Best Collection awards. After much
interest in her graduate collection she set up her own label two months later. Having grown up in North London she now works
from a studio in Islington. She uses masculine influences and hard detailing to give feminine pieces
a new toughness. The result is a luxury look. It is not military or utility as
such, but has a hard edge.

Dois meses após o término do curso Sophie criou sua marca e hoje trabalha em seu estúdio em Islington, misturando influencias masculinas em looks femininos para dar um ar mais "duro", o resultado sao looks de luxo com praticidade e qualidade.

Design background: Sophie graduated in 2007 from Kingston University with Student of the Year and Best Collection awards. She set up her own label two months later.
Design signatures: “Clean, tailored silhouettes with masculine and feminine influences. There is an emphasis on hardware and detailing.”
Career highlight: “It’s amazing to see my brand in beautiful stores stocked alongside other brands that I have admired for a long time.”
How would you describe the Sophie Hulme woman? “All the pieces are designed as individual items, not looks, so I like the fact that all different types of customers use the pieces in their own way.”
Trademark piece: “The outerwear is very popular but I think the armoured tote bag has probably had the most attention - we keep re-running it.”
What is your brand philosophy? “I try to make all of the pieces special but still wearable. I also like them to not be too trend-led so that there is a longevity to them.”
Price range at retail: £250 - £800
Three autumn/winter 2012 inspirations: “Dinosaurs, grandad jumpers and lace holes.”
What does 2012 hold for your brand? “We're showing for the first time on schedule and we've got some exciting collaborations in the pipeline including Globetrotter.”
What is your favourite decade in fashion? “There was some amazing cutting in the forties.”
